Mother of Raped OFW Appeals for Help

MANILA, Philippines – The mother of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) reported to the Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo (BMPM) the deplorable condition of her daughter in Dubai.
According to “Nena," her daughter “Cristy” left their hometown in San Pablo City, Laguna to try her luck as a singer in Dubai in July 2010.

Cristy’s ordeal began in December 2010 after she was robbed of the money she was supposed to send back home.

Hinuli po nila ako mama,” Nena recalled her conversation with her daughter.

What’s worse, Cristy told her mother that she was raped almost every night while in jail.

Mamamatay na ko dito’,” her daughter said.

Cristy’s mother works as a laundrywoman. Nena uses her meager salary to travel to Manila to seek help from different government agencies like the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

BMPM brought Cristy’s case to the DFA. According to DFA Spokesman Ed Malaya, they are doing everything to get Cristy out of jail.

Malaya also said that the suspect who raped Cristy is now detained and is being investigated. Sol Aragones, ABS-CBN News
